Doch “entdeckt” wurde die Tomate erst von Christoph Kolumbus in 1498 und darauf nach Spanien und Portugal gebracht. Von hier aus sollte sich die Tomate langsam aber sich ausbreiten und bekannt werden. Im 17. und 18. Jahrhundert wird die Tomate in Europa vor allem als Zierpflanze angesehen, bereits Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts bezeichnet die Encyclopdia Britannica den Einsatz von Tomaten in der Kche als alltglich.
Erst um 1900 ist die Tomate letztendlich auch in Deutschland als Lebensmittel bekannt und wird berwiegend im Sden vor allem in Saucen, Suppen und Salaten verwendet. Heute werden Tomaten in ganz Europa gezchtet oder gar im Hausgarten gest. Sie wird nicht mehr als Delikatesse und Seltenheit betrachtet. Meistens wird die Tomate in ihre Substanz und Sein auch Unterschtzt. Whrend die meisten Deutschen die Tomate in ihre Spagetti Bolognese essen oder in der Kartoffel Salat zu geben, verwenden andere die Tomate als Naturheilpflanze.
Die Tomate ist nicht nur eine Genusspflanze sonder auch eine Heil und Kosmetik Pflanze. Ihre Inhaltstoffe wirken beruhigend auf dem Krper, die Tomate hat einen hohen Vitamingehalt und ihr Samen knnen zu le gepresst werden.
